  1. Lake Baikal

Located in southern Siberia, is not only the world’s deepest lake; it is also the world’s oldest one. Moreover, it is the cleanest fresh water reservoir on the planet and is why locals call it the “Pearl of Siberia.” A trip to Baikal requires trying omul, a whitefish species of the salmon family.

2. The Hermitage and bridges in Saint Petersburg

The State Hermitage Museum is considered one of the main treasures of Russia – it stores an incredible number of priceless works of art. The museum’s collection of more than 3 million items includes paintings, sculpture, numismatics, archaeological artefacts and jewellery. In addition, make sure not to miss the bascule bridges opening during the white nights.

3. The Altai Mountains

Altai is a wonderful union of steppe and tundra, semi-deserts and mountains, clear lakes and amazing caves, fast rivers and alpine meadows. A vast area of 16,178 square kilometers, Altai and Katun Natural Reserves, Lake Teletskoye, the highest mountain of Siberia, Mount Belukha, and the Ukok Plateau, comprise a natural UNESCO World Heritage Site entitled the Golden Mountains of Altai.

4. The Swallow’s Nest

This monument of architecture and history, situated on the steep 40-meter Aurora Cliff, has long been a symbol of Crimea and one of the most popular visitor attractions on the peninsula. The castle, which seems to “float” between the sky and the sea, resembles beautiful medieval buildings.

5. Kremlin and Saint Basil’s Cathedral in Moscow

It is difficult to describe the beauty of the Kremlin’s unique structures – a picture is worth 1,000 words. Located in the historical center of Moscow, this magnificent architectural complex has become the hallmark of Russia and is considered the heart of the country. Saint Basil’s Cathedral is notable not only for its location on Red Square, but for its history, architecture and relics. Shaped as a flame of a bonfire rising into the sky, it is a true masterpiece of architecture.
